Leonie McCarthy
Highly Attuned, Warm Hearted with a Finger on the Pulse
My background experience encompasses a range of areas with roles in Health and Mental Health, Social Inclusion and Diversity, Education, Theatre and Media.
In 2009 I was awarded an MBE for services to communities.
Housed in bricks and mortar for a life-time, I decided once my children left home that I wanted to know what it would be like to live the life unlived. In the midst of the Covid pandemic, I realised the time had come to sell up and fulfil a lifelong dream of living on the water. In 2021 I bought my first narrowboat and moved onto a mooring on the River Nene.
When I am not working, my Cross Collie Labrador, Lily and I share surroundings with a multitude of wildlife; herons, kingfishers, swans, coots and cormorants. As I sit here now to write, I am looking up at swooping Canada Geese, and down, through the light reflections on the water, at an array of bobbing fish.
When the river is not in flood, life afloat is mostly peaceful and serene!
I decided to move into the therapy sector because I believe authentic, human connection has the power to effect real and lasting change. I now choose to spend my time working relationally, providing individuals with nourishing 1-2-1 therapy and counselling and leading personal development and themed support groups.
My work encompasses body, mind and emotion and is based on an integrative, gestalt approach where, with awareness, we can change how we are in the world.
